Hi, I’m Katheryn van Laar.
After working as a teacher for international students, refugees, and immigrants, I became a counselor. I wanted to learn more about how to support my students and others like them beyond just education.
I started my counseling journey in 2016 as a student and I am now a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. I am also board certified through the National Board of Certified Counselors.
I am working towards becoming a Registered Play Therapist and am trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and ADHD Clinical services. I am looking forward to working with you and your family!
My Approach
As a therapist, I am not here to solve life's problems for you, but I am here to support you and your family while you experience the hard parts of life. I'm here to listen to and validate your world and help you develop skills or tools to cope with the tough times.
For Children and Teens
I work with children and teens who are struggling with grief, trauma, self-esteem, depression and anxiety and help those who want to improve coping skills and ADHD management skills.
For Parents
I work with parents and guardians of all family types. I help you learn new parenting skills and build stronger connections with your child or teen. I support LGBTQ+ youth and families.
